What is Foresta?

Forest private action

FORESTA is a Private Foundation of autonomous area that operates as agency of forest extension without another profit that to recover and to improve the exceptional but punished Natural Canary Patrimony.

Inside the necessary balance between the people and their environment, Foresta works for the reforestation of the forest, so much in our fields and summits, since in the conscience of the all canaries.

Foresta is an opened and participative entity, is born on December 11, 1998, as result of the need of giving response to the serious problem of the Canary Islands deforestation, due to the progressive abandon of the field and the degradation of the Canary ecosystem.

The "Foresta’s” project is today a reality thanks to the support of a Canary businessmen group who bet, as employers of the Foundation, for the recovery to the forest ecosystems of Canaries, from the coast up to the summit of each one of the islands.

With the time and the results, Foresta has been adding collaborations and sponsorships to autonomous, national and international level, to contain the ground opposite to the erosive deterioration for the historical deforestation and to support the creation of life and the maintenance a rich biodiversity in Canary Islands.

To achieve this aim it becomes necessary to reach other goals:

  • To improve the ecological and socioeconomic quality of every zone, according to their peculiarities.
  • To promote the landscape and tourist insular attraction, so much for us as for the tourism that visits us.
  • To favor the culture and social indoctrination on the importance and the value of our natural patrimony.
  • To contribute to the research and forest necessary experimentation to turn green again those islands and needier zones.
  • To monitor the fulfillment on the part of the public organisations of their responsibilities of protection and maintenance of the natural Canary patrimony.

The Foundation preserves from her beginnings a clear vocation of collaboration and participation with all the active agents of the Canary society, institutions and public organisms, voluntary and civil, which share with Foresta the aim to get the future generations a natural elegant and rich environment in species and spaces.

Across this formula, Foresta's work comes to complement the realized one for the insular chapters (competent organisations in forest matter in every island), in public soil. The Foundation has present that ¾ parts of the insular surface is in private hands, which prevents a global action of the Public Administrations.
